Oyetola pledges to raise IGR in Osun

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has said that his administration planned to raise internally generated revenue in the state without increasing the people’s tax burden.

Oyetola said this during the celebration of Iragbiji Day in Iragbiji, his home town, in the Boripe Local Government Area of the state.

Urging Osun to pay their taxes regularly to enable the government discharge its responsibilities, the governor said that the provision of infrastructural amenities should not be left for government alone.

He added that the state government’s initiatives, such as the Schools Feeding Programme, the security of lives and property and provision of amenities, would be difficult to sustain if the resources were not available.

Commending the community for engaging in self-development projects, such as the ongoing construction of a 4,500-capacity Civic Centre, Oyetola said the palace of the traditional ruler of the town should be modernised.

He pledged to donate the sum of N5m toward the development of the town.

Also, calling on parents to pay more attention to the upbringing of their children, the governor lamented that many Nigerian youths had taken to bad habits like cultism and drug addiction.

“Indeed, I am amazed at the behaviour of many children nowadays. Bringing up kids should be the responsibility of everybody in the society as it obtained in the past. Kids that continue to embrace bad habits will have a jeopadised future,” he said.
