The  lecturers, who alleged that Omonijo had committed impeachable offences, on Tuesday disrupted a congress of the union called by  the ASUU Akure Zonal Chairman, Prof Olu Olu,  and allegedly threatened to set the union’s bus ablaze.

A leader of the union and Dean of  the Faculty of Arts, Dr Bolanle  Opoola, said the congress was disrupted because members  believed Olu was part of the problems of ASUU in the institution.

Opoola said,  “There has been a resolution on  the ground that Omonijo has committed impeachable offences and should step down. Our members who insist they are still part of ASUU   demand he  respect the resolution.

”Our people cannot allow a system where some people from outside would come and lord it over us. We have our own internal problem and we should be allowed to solve it internally.

“Our people want ASUU to move on, but we don’t want Omonijo again.”

But Omonijo, who said he had  not committed  any impeachable offences, accused those calling for his removal of insubordination.

He  said,  “They tabled other matters outside the agenda of the meeting I had empowered them to hold while I was away on a  national assignment for the union. They were not supposed to table  any matter outside the ASUU strike.”

Trouble started in the union some months ago when  some ASUU Akure Zonal officials, alongside Omonijo, at a press  conference  in Ado Ekiti, made some allegations of misconduct against FUOYE Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kayode Soremekun,  and  his management team. However, a faction of the union in the institution was said to have faulted the allegations, saying they were aimed at tarnishing the image of the school.
