The publicity secretary of the party’s caretaker committee in the state, Tunde Oladunjoye, said this in a statement issued to journalists in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Oladunjoye said the party, in the strongest possible terms, condemned the attack on the members and supporters of the APC in Odogbolu.

He explained that the violence ensued while the members awaited the arrival of the party’s governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, Dapo Abiodun, who was on a ward-to-ward tour of the Odogbolu Local Government Area.

According to Oladunjoye, unknown gunmen opened fire on the supporters at the venue of the rally, injuring three people, including a Police officer.

“Having previously and publicly raised the alarm over a planned attack on our candidate and supporters, we hereby call on the Inspector-General of Police to quickly set up an independent panel that will report to the Police headquarters directly, to investigate not only the attack on the supporters of Prince Dapo Abiodun, but also the recently escalating political violence in the once peaceful state.

“We want to assure our teeming  supporters all over Ogun State that our ward-to-ward tour to the nooks and crannies of Ogun State shall continue, as we will ensure that all that is humanly possible under the laws of the land, will be done to guarantee the safety of lives and properties.

“We call on the Police to be alive to their constitutional responsibilities”.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
