Anti craft agency arrests Commandant over money extortio

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the Gombe State Commandant of Nigerian Peace Corps, Mr. Ambore Enoch, over financial extortion of money.

A statement from the anti-graft agency said the charges were hinged on employment scam and extortion of money from the general public in Gombe State, under the pretext of offering them appointment into the organisation, as well as the provision of training kit, which reached about 54 million Naira.

The statement said the arrest was prompted following a petition written by some aggrieved members of the Corps’ State Command, after which the Commission did their preliminary investigation before inviting the State Commandant for questioning.

Interim Investigation
It said an interim investigation revealed that between December 2016 and March 2017, the victims were made to pay various sums of money ranging from 3, 000 to 60, 000Naira into the account of the Corps, which is domiciled in one of the new generation Banks, amounting to 54 million Naira.

The investigation also revealed that out of the 54 million Naira from the account of the corps, the Commandant had remitted only 18.7 million Naira into the Nigerian Peace Corps account at the Headquarters, Abuja, and withdrawn 3.5 million Naira for his personal use, while 20 million Naira was transferred into his personal account.

It was also revealed that other withdrawal was carried out by individuals under the instruction of the Commandant which appears suspicious.

The Gombe EFCC says investigation into the matter is still ongoing and the suspect will be charge to court after the conclusion of investigations.
