Adamawa PDP, APC kick over non-return of election materials

The Adamawa State chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress on Sunday expressed concerns over the non-return of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to the vault of the Central Bank of Nigeria in Yola after the postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Checks by our correspondents who visited the CBN and INEC offices in the state on Sunday revealed that the election materials taken to the 21 council areas of the state had yet to be returned to the CBN.

The leadership of the two political parties raised the alarm that the materials could be tampered with if left at the council areas, calling for their return to the CBN.

Adamawa is the home state of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who is the PDP Presidential candidate in the election.

The Publicity secretary of the APC in the state, Abdullahi Mohammed, called on INEC to ensure that the electoral materials were not tampered with until they were taken back to the CBN.

He said, “All stakeholders are concerned about this and they (electoral materials) should be retrieved and kept in a safe custody; that is our call.”

The Chairman of the PDP in the state, Tahir Shehu, said the party did not trust the assurances given by the state Residence Electoral Commissioner that the materials were safe where they were being kept outside the CBN because of the desperation of the ruling APC to win the state at all cost.
