Amaechi, others for maritime summit

The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, and former Minister of Information, Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr, are among the dignitaries expected to speak at the maiden edition of the International Maritime Summit scheduled to commence in Lagos on Monday.

The summit seeks to highlight the economic prospects of the maritime sector as Nigeria grapples with the effects of the declining oil price.

Organised by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in conjunction with Tell Magazine, the event has its theme as ‘Exploring opportunities in Nigeria’s maritime industry.’

According to a statement by the Chairman, Organising Committee Mr. Ignatius Nweke, the summit will stimulate discussions on the numerous business opportunities that abound in the maritime industry.

 

He said, “The world and emerging markets have not only embraced their maritime potential to their advantage as 90 percent of global trade is through sea but have explored and exploited the advantages for the benefit of their economies”

A former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, is the lead speaker at the event.
